American Idol Review-Week 3 "The Guys"
Welcome all to another rousing night of American Idol. We now face the final elimination for the guys portion prior to the final 12 starting next week. Let's get it started HAH!

Blake Lewis-after another endearing interview with his Bubba character, we get another unique Blake song, this time sounding much like Snow, the rapper who did "Informer". Again, Blake is kind of pigeonholing himself by not really giving his singing all that much emphasis, but his character should continue to push him onward. A definite shoo-in for the final 12.

Score: 2.5 stars

Sanjaya Malakar-He's so cute in his personality, but waaaaaaaaay too sugary. I just can't think that this guy belongs here at this stage of the game. Singing John Mayer's "Waiting on the World to Change" was a decent song choice, but again, with his soft voice, this song eats him alive in terms of the lack of intensity and uniqueness. At least he gave a little "power" area, but it just doesn't fit him. A complete bore, in my opinion. Paula really tries to struggle to find a positive, and with good reason. Randy is really telling it like it is with the brutal honesty--good for him.

Score: 1.5 stars

Sundance Head-A corny attempt at humor with his "skinny" bit. Pearl Jam's "Jeremy" was another decent choice in theory, but I feel he butchered it overall. Pitchy and really not sounding the way it should. Very karaoke, in my opinion. Suddenly I lost respect for Randy backing down. Come on man!

Score: 1.5 stars

Chris Richardson-
Chris was chunky? No way...can't see it. Slowing it down for the first time, it started out a little sketchy--definitely not his type of genre, that's for sure. He pushed a little too much to impress on this one. His weakest performance so far, in my opinion. But that's not a REAL bad thing overall, because he's been so good so far.

Score: 2 stars

Jared Cotter-
a nice bit about his basketball "career" turning into singing. He does Stevie Wonder's "If you really love me" and I can't think about anything other than Elliott blowing his pipes to this last year and comparing. Jared does a nice job but I can see that his days are numbered--he just doesn't have the vocal talents as many of the others do. Good, but not great.

Score: 2 stars

Brandon Rogers-wow, what an amazing pianist he is! Brandon gets the crowd into it with a "Celebrate" rendition, but again, he really doesn't exploit his abilities until the very end and it could have been better. The WOW factor just isn't there with Brandon, and he needs to turn it up considerably. He has the potential, he just hasn't really stepped outside of the box.

Score: 2 stars

Phil Stacey-wow, we get to learn about the history of Phil's hair. Ummm...alrighty then. One comment to start--the hat looks awful and he should burn it immediately. No, seriously, now..did he get a free bowl of soup with it or something? His ballad is not only off, pitchy, and "screaming", it's downright creepy. Not a good job at all.

Score: 1 star

Chris Sligh-Another hair story. Good grief, are they that desperate for material? Singing a song that reminds me of something that Taylor Hicks would have thrived on, he again puts out a good performance with range, but not something that was memorable according to Sligh's "bar" being as high as it has been raised. Definitely didn't hurt him, he will be in the final 12.

Score: 2.5 stars

Overall, the night was EXTREMELY dissapointing for the guys, minus the ones that should be where they are. I believe that they were all trying to play it safe, but that could come back to bite them overall. Although I still believe Sanjaya should be going home, my gut is that Phil and Brandon will be heading out the door.

GOOSEY-OUT!
